Their headline: “The life and career rise of Danica Patrick, the most successful woman in the history of racing.”
I think Michelle Mouton might have some issues with that claim.
Their article is just a bunch of press photos with a 2-sentence “paragraph” summarizing what the photo is about.
The “author”
is
Sean Wolfe, should anyone care to correct him on this matter.

Business Insider? How about BSness insider?

Agreed. They’ve given up reporting actual facts and information and gone to spam for clicks. I really ought to remove them from my newsfeed.

Shirley you can’t be serious?

Yeah, how about Sabine Schmitz, she’s way cooler. 1996 and 1997 24hour of Nürburgring overall winner on BMW’s team, 3rd overall with Porsche in 2008, 9t h with Porsche in 2011, and 6th again with Porsche in 2012. Two overall wins is pretty huge imo. I don’t know anything about Daniela Patrick other than she’s a nascar driver so maybe she is really successful in that sport.

I would say the only rating is sponsership $$$ or mainstream recognition..

Danica is a very successful driver, and I am not trying to take anything away from her accomplishments. But, I do not agree that she is the most successful woman racing driver ever. Most recognizable/famous? Yeah, that’s probably true.
But there are numerous other women who had achieved
higher results within their chosen discipline than what Danica has done.

Agreed. Danica has more name-recognition, but that’s due to her racing endeavors being more recent / part of more widely- followed disciplines (at least in the US) like NASCAR and placing high/leading in the Indy 500. Then you add in the marketing of the modern era, where I’m sorry to say this, but there’s defini tely a “she’s attractive, so sex still sells” facet to ads featuring her. Danica may win the day in terms of sponsorship pull or advertising dollars generated, but that doesn’t necessary translate to “most successful woman racer. ”
Mouton was closer to winning an overall championship at the top of her chosen sport. Also, my (based on no experience) guess is that you could drop a rally driver into an open wheel or stock car and they’d do reasonably—yet the reverse scenario would likely be more challenging. Again, not trying to bash on Danica Patrick; she’s done very well when one compares her to the field of others she’s raced against, with several podiums in open wheel and feeder series—t hat’s more than many aspiring racers could even hope for. And capitalizing on the sponsors utilizing her because she’s a woman who looks good in front of a camera isn’t something where I think she should be faulted; I’m sure a racer’s number one goal (besides winning races and championships) is to be able to continue racing.
But yeah, if we’re looking for most successful based on sheer talent, Mouton is a better entry, in my mind.

Then there is drag racing, where women have been highly successful for decades. Isn’t
Ashley Force like a 300-time world champion with so many track records she now travels faster than light?

I don’t follow drag racing, but I don’t think Ashley Force has caught Shirley Muldowney’s accomplishments yet.

I’d put the fascinating pair of Ewy Rosqvist and Ursula Wirth up there, too:
